Premium Intra Ocular Lenses (IOL)

Multi-Focal IOLs

As we perform daily activities such as reading, watching television or working at the computer, our eyes are constantly focusing on objects at varying distances – up close, far away and in-between. The ability to quickly change focus throughout our range of vision is called Accommodation – the ability of the eye’s natural lens to change shape to focus on objects at various distances. Unfortunately, we begin to lose this ability as we grow older (Presbyopia), gradually becoming more and more dependent on bifocals or reading glasses.

ReStor, Tecnis and ReZoom Multi-Focal IOLs are new, third and second generation Multi-Focal refractive foldable intra-ocular lens implants. They are uniquely designed with advanced optical zones that provide good vision across a range of distances and light conditions. These IOLs allow you to see near, far and in between in both bright light and low light conditions.

Does this mean freedom from glasses? For many people, yes. many people can read, drive and perform most other tasks without the need for glasses. In fact, in clinical trials, after having the ReSTOR® IOL implanted in both eyes, 76% of patients reported never wearing glasses.

However, there can be a trade-off – while you may gain clear vision throughout ReStoreIOL2your visual range, you can also experience Halos: A circular flare or hazy ring that may appear around a headlight or other light source. or glare. We will discuss it with you during your consultation. Most patients find these trade-offs tolerable. Read how Dr W. Crystalens

Crystalens is a new intraocular lens (IOL) that has recently been introduced in Australia. It has a long track record with the original version of this lens receiving American FDA approval in November 2004.

As we age our natural lens becomes stiffer which makes it harder for the eye’s muscles to adjust the lens for near and distance vision. This new Crystalens IOL replaces your natural lens and is attached to the eye’s muscles, re-establishing the eye’s ability to focus at different distances.

The Crystalens  moves in response to eye muscle contractions – just like a natural lens. Once the lens is placed inside the eye, if you try to read, the middle part of the lens shifts forward slightly by changing its shape in response to the effort of trying to read.

This new IOL gives good distance vision and also offers people an improved range of vision. The Crystalens provides better intermediate vision – computer vision- and helps with reading as well.

Most people will be able to do the majority of day to day tasks without glasses but may still need a pair of glasses for reading small print, prolonged close work or in poor lighting.

Premium Intra Ocular Lenses have been uniquely designed to provide enhanced image quality and a full range of vision – up close, far away and everything in-between – giving you the best opportunity to live life free of glasses.
