What will you experience at Medownick? One of the most rigorous screenings anywhere
We may not be the clinic for you, but we believe in helping every patient make the right decision. That’s what this website is all about. From the moment you get in touch with us, we’ll do everything possible to make sure you’re comfortable, fully informed and feeling positive about your Laser Eye Surgery. Learn more about the Medownick Laser Clinic and what set us apart before you make your decision about Laser Eye Surgery.
The first thing you should understand is that we are in no hurry to operate on your eyes.
Before we even think about operating on your eyes, we measure and test your eyes in very fine detail. Indeed, the Medownick Laser Clinic’s screening process is rigorous and detailed. Read our FAQ about Laser Eye Surgery to find a full list of 21 tests we usually do for screening at Medownick Laser Clinic.
While you might have the same prescription as someone else, the actual shape and surface of your eyes are completely unique – even from each other. The only way to minimise risk, and achieve the best possible result, is to understand each of your eyes individually and in detail. Our State-of-the-Art Technology was designed to provide custom treatments by incorporating wavefront principles into each procedure and adjusting the treatment to the patient’s unique shape of the eye.
This brings you closer to achieving your desire for perfect vision – seeing beyond 20/20 if we find you to be an ideal Laser Eye Surgery candidate.
Your first step will be to come into Medownick Laser Clinic for thorough eye tests and private consultations, at a time convenient to you. This will take around 2 hours.
This session is FREE, and there is NO obligation.
First, our Patient Care Team will discover your uniquely personal needs by gathering the necessary information that makes you unique, in terms of your most important priorities, and your life and work style as they relate to Laser Eye Surgery.
Than we’ll start with the measurement of your eyes, conducted by a qualified Orthoptist or Optometrist. You will also be encouraged to ask as many questions as you wish. We’ll perform a series of eye tests during which we shall measure, examine and assess your eyes. We do this to establish the precise Vision Correction procedure that your eyes will require.
We will explain the results of your eye tests. We will also discuss the various types of refractive procedures for your eyes, given their unique condition and state of health.
We shall conduct a computer topography, which is the precise mapping of the surface of each eye with the most accurate corneal scanner in the world. And then through dilation of your pupils, we shall examine the back of your eyes to further determine their true state of health.
You will view a clinical video in which Dr. Mark Medownick will explain the Laser Vision Correction procedure to you, and again, we shall encourage you to ask further questions on any issue that concerns you.
At the conclusion of this session, you’ll meet with an eye care professional who will explain the results of your eye tests, and discuss the most suitable procedure for your eyes, given the results of an exhaustive range of tests.
Before you leave, we will provide you with a realistic expectation of your potential to achieve 20/20 or better vision. We shall also provide you with a copy of our DVD, plus a folder of detailed Patient Notes, so that you are in a position to discuss Laser Eye Surgery with your family and GP, and then make an informed decision.
The final decision is made by Dr. Medownick. This is important, because no two eyes are alike. Each one must be carefully and individually diagnosed.
We may even have to tell you, as we do with more than one third of applicants, that your eyes are unsuitable for Laser Vision Correction. This does not mean you will not be a suitable candidate in the future.
